Is it wrong that I worry about my looks rather than more important things?

Alot of times I feel like a bubblehead because I always worry about stupid things like going to the mall to get crap I don't need, or getting my hair done at the salon when I should be at home studying my college courses. Another thing is, what do you think about magazines that make it impossible for regular women to achieve looks like the models and actresses in them? And how do I balance out everything so that I don't worry about my looks so much?

I don't think there is anything wrong with you worrying about your looks. Unfortunately, a lot of people will judge you almost solely based on your looks no matter how much you may or may not have going on between your ears (at least initially). The fact that things shouldn't be that way (and obviously they shouldn't since looks are shallow way to judge anyone's worth), doesn't change the way they are.

However, if you feel bad about yourself for doing things like going to the mall and getting your hair done when you should be studying/doing homework, the solution is simple: Don't go to the mall and don't go get your hair done etc, when you have work to do. If you feel compelled to do these things, at least use these activities to reward yourself after your work is done instead of putting these things first and hopefully this will both reduce your guilt and help you get more work done.

Finally, if magazines and other media make you feel like you can never measure up, remember that a lot of magazines actually alter photos with airbrushing, etc, in order to cover up normal imperfections (plus models and such can afford to hire personal trainers, dieticians and make up artists, etc, things that ordinary people can't do). Remember these images are designed to create a fantasy...they are not a reflection of what is real/what a real person should look like.

Looks aren't everything - there r stuff that matters more. Just take good diet, lots of fruits, exercise to keep u fit. u r mot an actress to spend hours in the saloon to do ur hair - for a normal person, a simple and near hair style will do. I'm not saying that u shouldn't take care of ur looks but not at the cost of your studies b'coz your knowledge about the world will make up your life. Just chill out and be natural

You acknowledge that you think your hair is more important than your studying, and you aren't sure whether it's a problem or not? IT IS. Go to the resource centre at your school and ask for some help with your study skills. And while you're at it, deep-six all the magazines that tell you what you should look like.

everyone worries about that stuff....i do....i have to constantly remind myself looks aren't all that matters...

No that is your age and its fine to do what you like so as long as you concentrate on education and life issues on one side do what you like.... you dont have any issues..... seems like others are jealous
